Almyrida
Having been awarded the Blue Flag for its pure waters, clean coast, and safe access, Almyrida is a lovely beach located 6km away from Aptera.
Feel the summer vibes as you practice thrilling water sports, such as windsurfing, canoe kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
Note that you can combine water activities with hiking or biking tours too.
Kalyves
Kalyves is a charming coastal village that attracts many tourists and locals, as it is close to the center of Chania and 5km away from Aptera. Apart from swimming at the sandy beach, you can stroll around the area, take a boat trip, or go scuba diving.

Take a scenic drive to Cape Drapano, approximately 30 minutes away from Megala Chorafia. Here, you will find the mesmerizing underwater Elephant Cave, where a unique diving experience awaits! Dive 10 meters under the surface of the water and if you are lucky enough, you might encounter a Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus Monachus)!
Of course, you can always visit some of the most famous beaches in Chania. From the pink-sand Elafonisi to the breathtaking Balos Lagoon, the primitive beauty of Gramvousa island, the secluded paradise of Kedrodasos, the dreamy Seitan Limania, the golden expanse of Falassarna, and the crystal-clear waters of Glyka Nera near Sfakia, the possibilities are endless.
And last but not least, if you have enough time, you can pay a visit to these famous beaches:
– Ravdoucha & Afrata Beach (in the same area).
– Krios, Gialiskari, and Psilos Volakas in Palaiochora. In this village, there are a lot of lovely beaches and places to eat too.
– Marathi and Loutraki. These two beaches are really close, while in Marathi, we recommend you to eat seafood at “Patrelantonis Tavern”.
– Illigas & Marmara Beach, located close to Sfakia.
– Sougia Beach.
